It takes a rare individual whose passion and sheer talent is capable of transforming and growing entire companies, and fearless enough to tackle innovation in emerging markets, wherever they may be. It takes an entirely unique spirit to then move to Sydney, Australia in devotion to a love of surfing, and yet continue to still shape and redefine the global digital landscape through their work. Such is the story of Marie Sornin.
After graduating with distinction from the Institut Superieur de Gestion in 1997, Marie began her career with the marketing team of the French Government Tourist Office in New York City, actively participating in sponsorship negotiations for the 1998 FIFA World Cup. Soon after, she stepped directly into a leadership role as founding partner of eclosion.net, a full-service digital agency based in Paris. She and her partners soon grew the venture into one of the most progressive independent digital marketing agencies in Europe, working with such key accounts as Méridien Hotels and Resorts, VisitBritain, Austrian Airlines and Kellogg’s.
With the success of eclosion.net, Marie recognized an opportunity to embrace her passion for surfing without compromising on career. This took her to Sydney, Australia in 2006. Here, Marie initially joined Leo Burnett as a Digital Executive Producer before assuming the role of Head of Digital Strategy for Zenith Optimedia. This role provided her with a wealth of exposure in successfully implementing new technologies across all digital disciplines, spearheading efforts for such brands as Qantas, Nestlé and 20th Century Fox.
In 2010, Marie accepted the position of Director of Social Marketing Services for IPG. Accomplishments included her work on the ‘Marry Me Microsoft’ campaign, shortlisted for a prestigious Cannes Lions. From 2011 Marie became an independent consultant, advising Fairfax Media –Australia’s leading news brand– on a three-year, multimillion-dollar digital advertising and social media strategy. At a time when the news industry was seeing sharp decline, Marie oversaw growth in Fairfax’s digital revenue by 2% above market.
This rich wealth of experience led Marie to Twitter in 2013, where she was one of only five employees initially hired to comprise Twitter Australia’s launch team, joining as Senior Account Executive. Building and fostering trust with clients and agencies, Marie outpaced growth projections to 20% beyond quarterly revenue targets and initiated the lead in launching Twitter Amplify. Transferring to New York, Marie has overseen the expansion of this product into seven new markets and been promoted to Twitter’s Head of International Development where she is committed to creating opportunities for brands to sponsor premium video content globally on Twitter.
Beyond her professional focus, Marie is a dedicated conservationist, an established artist (www.WhoIsAdeleFrench.com), and her aforementioned love for surfing continues, unabashedly, to keep her eagerly globetrotting for the next, great wave.
